Johann Anton [Giannantonio / Gianantonio / Giovanni Antonio] Banner (flourished 1740 - 1798) a German composer, from Padua, Italy. He was a choirmaster, padre, reverendo, from an early age active in Italy where he was best known as Giannantonio, the unusual spelling with double 'nn' reveals his german origin and stems from his german name Johann, 1740-1798 maestro di cappella in Padua, 1740 and 1745 he published a study counterpoint in two parts titled 'Compendio Musico' and 'Compendio Musicale' which was printed many times with varying descriptions, in which he added a Sinfonia to the opera Catone in Utica of 1761 by Johann Christian Bach as an example, so he has worked on this study for more than 22 years ; related to composer Filippo Banner
