J. Heyda
Joseph Lorenz [Joseph] Heyda (Hayda, Haida) (17/06/1740 - 17/03/1806), an Austrian Organist and composerborn in Alservorstadt (Vienna IX), died in Vienna. . Was organist at the Trinitarian Church until 1783 (succeeding his father) and then worked as such from 1784–1806? at the Schottenstift (next to A. and J. B. Henneberg) and 1793–1806 (succeeding J. Preindl) at the Michaelerkirche. I. v. Seyfried was a student of H., who, according to Aug. Schmidt, was one of the best organists of his time and was also valued by J. G. Albrechtsberger. Although he is said to have been organist at least at St. Michael until his death, he died completely impoverished and had last lived on alms; he received a free funeral from the Schottenpfarre. Due to the similarity of names, works by H. were repeatedly attributed to J. Haydn.
