L.E. Seyd - Wood
Lily Eugenie [Eugenie] Seyd-Wood (08/03/1896 - 1986), a female German - Australian composer. Lily Eugenie Wood (nee Seyd) was born in Dusseldorf, Germany on 8th March, 1896. As the daughter of a wealthy family, she was educated by private tutors. Living in Alsace after the Great War, she met her husband, Thomas Charnock Wood, who was then a Major in one of the Scottish regiments stationed there. They were married in 1920, in Cologne, and soon after emigrated to Australia. After her husband's death in 1952, Eugenie Seyd-Wood moved to Orange. Despite having travelled widely and having lived an adventurous life, Seyd-Wood's chief interest remained her music. Her compositions probably date from the early 1930s and it had been her great wish to have them published and performed. Unfortunately, this task became too great for her to contemplate in later life and it was only after her death in 1986 that her wishes could be carried out, by the executor of her will.

Musical form:song
Text/libretto:R.L. Stevenson
Requiem, song for soprano with piano. Text by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894), an American poet.
The text of "Requiem" by Stevenson:

Requiem

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
