Andrew Charles [Andrew] Newcombe (1970), an Australian composer. He was born in Melbourne Australia and moved to the UK in 1996. He graduated from the University of Melbourne as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy and Bachelor of Music with Honours in Composition. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Education from Monash University and is a Licentiate of Trinity College London. He has worked professionally as a pianist and bass-player in bands and musical theatre and as an organist at several churches in London. Andrew is also a recorder player and has given two series of concerts of baroque and contemporary music in Norway. He also plays clarinet, saxophone and sitar.
As a composer, Andrew has worked on commissions in Norway for a brass fanfare in 1996 and again in 1997 for a ballet Kaster du den forste steinen. He has written a huge amount of organ and choral music including Vita Christi (1990-1992), The Mysteries of the Cross (1993) and Mantras (2 hours 20 minutes, 1990-2002). The ninth 'meditation' from Vita Christi won first prize for a new Australian work at the Sydney International Organ Competition in 1992. Other works have been broadcast on radio and performed in Australia, the UK, the USA, Germany, Norway, France and Italy.
