Josef Adam Schmitt (29/07/1745 - 24/06/1808), a German composer, born at Zell, died at Versbach, about the end of the 18th century. Organist, pupil of Beyer, became Cantor and schoolmaster at Versbach. Works : Concerto for pianoforte and orchestra ; Preludes for the organ ; 6 duos for flutes ; Several short masses ; Requiem ; Te Deum. He was author also of a treatise on harmony, and of methods for violin and the voice.
Don't confuse Josef Adam Schmitt with Joseph Schmitt (1734 - 1791), composer, conductor, and violinist called the "Dutch Haydn".
