Franz Seraphin Thomas [Franz Seraphin] Hölzl (14/03/1808 - 18/08/1884), an Austrian - Hungarian (from Malaczka, near Bratislava) composer. Church composer, pupil in Vienna of Erasmus Kessler and of Seyffried. In 1827-30 he was professor of thorough-bass at the Musikverein of St. Anna, then for a year in Poland, and after his return became very popular as a teacher. In 1841 he went as director of the Musikverein to Innsbruck, where he actively promoted musical life, and in 1843 became Kapellmeister of the cathedral at Fiiufkircheu, Hungary. For his grand mass in D, dedicated to the Emperor of Austria in 1852, he received the gold medal for art and science.
