Siegfried Matthus (13/04/1934 - 27/08/2021), a German composer and professor, born in Mallenuppen. He was a pupil under Hanns Eisler at the Academy of Art in Berlin. Matthus was the most-played composer in the former GDR and with over 600 works, is to date one of the most productive contemporary composers. With his psychologically complex material, Matthus has distinguished himself in particular in the field of specifically music-related dramatic technique for opera. His most well-known works include the operas Der letzte Schuss, Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke, the drama Judith based on Hebbel's play, Graf Mirabeau and also Farinelli oder die Macht des Gesangs dating from 1998.
