R. Nye
Richard Nye (16/02/1967), an English composer, from Gloucester. He began his musical career as a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral and went on to study music at Southlands College, London where he received college awards for composition and his musical contribution to college life . He has, over the last thirteen years, combined a career as a teacher with his desire to compose. During this time he has written for a wide variety of individuals and groups both in the UK and abroad. He was commissioned by West Sussex County Council to write a large-scale choral and orchestral work for the millennium premiered at Chichester Cathedral on January 4th 2000. His music was also used during celebrations at the Millennium Dome.

This work for unaccompanied SATB, was first performed by the group Quorum in January 2003. 'Sacrifices and Prayers' is the English translation of the title and the text comes from the Latin requiem. This piece is a response to the state of the world at the time as seen through the news reports I was reading/watching.

In memory of:the composer's friend Neil McConnell
Written in memory of a friend who died in tragic circumstances in February this year, In Paradisum uses texts taken from the traditional Requiem. The piece is designed as a positive celebration of life with the main theme accompanied by the choir in a minor key to begin but returning in the major with a descant over the top. The final 9 bars are a brief prayer.
