Luke Matthew [Luke] Mayernik (18/06/1981), an American composer and music director at St. Justin, born in Monessen (Pennsylvania). Luke is currently music director and organist at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, PA. In September, Luke began attending Seton Hill University to complete his bachelor's degree in organ performance.
Until July, 2004 Luke had been music director at St. Justin's Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. St. Justin's is a bilingual parish that includes hearing and deaf Catholics who celebrate the Eucharist both in English and American Sign Language.
Luke Mayernik, was born and raised in Monessen, Pa. He studied organ and organ improvisation at Duquesne University with Ann Labounsky. Mayernik is music director at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Grensburg, Pa. He is also active as a composer, and his music has been broadcast on WQED-FM, Pittsburgh’s classical music station. He is currently studying organ with Edgar Highberger at Seton Hill University.

Slippery Rock University’s orchestra and choir have been given the honor of performing the world premiere of In Memoriam: A Requiem for Mr. Rogers. Ninety students, along with former cast members of “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” will debut the Fred Rogers tribute composition 7 p.m. Feb. 29 2004 at historic St. Justin Church in Mount Washington.
Fred McFeely Rogers (20/03/1928 – 27/02/2003) was an American educator, Presbyterian minister, songwriter, and television host. Fred Rogers, who gently taught millions of children to love themselves and each other for more than 30 years, died Feb. 27 2003. This Requiem is billed as a celebration of his life and legacy.

At the request of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood cast member Maggie Stewart, Mayernik composed In Memoriam: A Requiem for Fred Rogers. It was premiered in February of 2004 by the Slippery Rock University Chorus and Orchestra; Luke was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for the work.
