Michael-Ludwig Nemmers had Luxembourgish and German parents who emigrated to America. Michael Ludwig was born there on 30/08/1855 in St. Donatus. At the age of sixteen he entered Holy Family Normal School and graduated four years later at the top of his class. He was a student of John Baptist Singenberger (1848-1924), a Swiss musician from the canton of St. Gallen, who came to Wisconsin on April 11, 1873, lived there for fifty-one years and trained hundreds of church organists, composers and music teachers.
Michael-Ludwig Nemmers was a composer, teacher and organist in Milwaukee (Wisconsin, USA). He founded his own publishing house to publish church music. He considered popular and simple liturgical music for small amateur choirs to be important for this era and during his forty-five-year career he published numerous of his own masses, motets, litanies and organ pieces, as well as works by other “Cäcilian” composers, mostly Americans.
