Joel Weiss (c.1980), an American composer, from South Carolina. "I received my master’s degree at UNC-Greensboro before moving to NYC. I had a pretty good run as a performer – a few off-Broadway shows, tours, some TV work and regional opera gigs in the states and in Europe. I got sick in 2008, and was forced to leave the singing behind and focus on writing full-time. My music has been well received – performances in the states, Germany, Canada and Mexico. I have had two composer-in-residency positions, was a visiting artist at The University of Notre Dame as well as guest composer at St. Patrick’s in New York, and currently hold the same position at Temple Emanuel in Wichita, Kansas."

"When I am dead my dearest", for voice and piano.
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.
