Carl Czerny (20/02/1791 - 15/07/1857), an Austrian pianist, teacher and composer (from Vienna).

Czerny leaves a considerable oeuvre: twenty-four masses, four requiems, symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and especially a thousand of pieces for piano, exercises and studies to the arrangements of operas, oratorios, openings, etc. Carl Czerny died at age 66 at his Vienna home leaving behind many unpublished manuscripts, particularly much of his sacred choral music, including eleven complete settings of the Mass, Graduals, Offertories and other liturgical works. It is hoped that future musicians will bring these compositions to life through recordings, giving to the world a more complete view of the depth of Czerny's genuine gifts as a composer in the genres in which he still remains unjudged by history and unheard by modern ears.

Czerny's industry was truly astounding. He left an enormous mass of manuscripts, now in the archives of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. These compositions comprise 24 masses, four requiems, 300 graduals, and offertories, symphonies, overtures,, concertos, string trios and quartets, choruses, songs for one or more voices, and even pieces for the stage.
