Chr. Vogl
Christoph Vogl (also: Vogel) (14/05/1722 - 18/01/1767), a German composer, priest, Benedictine. Born in Tremersdorf bei Amberg, died in Weingarten. Vogl took his eternal vows on April 19, 1744 with the Benedictines of Weingarten Abbey. He was ordained a priest in 1750. He worked in his abbey as a librarian and copyist of old manuscripts. The records of the monastery describe him as a peaceful person and as a comforter of the poor and desperate. Those books also mention Vogl's great talent as a lutenist. In any case, he was able to produce a fairly large body of music in addition to his usual work. Among them are many masses, requiems, vesperspsalms, Maria antiphons, Magnificats and litanies. His work is not regularly performed. Nevertheless, he is one of the connecting figures between the late Baroque (with its strict counterpoint) and the period of the classical style.
