Hugo Alpen (26/10/1842 - 20/06/1917), a German - Australian composer; born in Kellinghusen, Germany, died in Strathfield, New South Wales (Australia). He came to Australia at the age of 16 in 1858, and established a career as a composer, choral conductor and singing teacher.
