Shigeaki Saegusa

Shigeaki Saegusa (08/07/1942), a Japanese opera composer. Saegusa is best known for his opera version Chushingura of the well-known kabuki epic of the Fort-seven Ronin with a libretto by the novelist Shimada Masahiko. Written over a period of 10 years, the opera was most recently performed at the New National Theatre, Tokyo in 2002.

Text by Ayoko Sono, a female Japanese poet and novelist; written for the victims of World War II, but at the premiere at 16 November 2001 also dedicated to the victims of the New York World Trade Center attack, September 11, 2001.
