Alfred Felder (02/09/1950), a Swiss composer, born in Lucerne. He studied violoncello and composition at Lucerne Conservatory where he received his teaching diploma for violoncello. He then studied at the ‘Mozartium’ in Salzburg where he graduated with a soloist’s diploma. He was solo cellist in various chamber orchestras; from 1977 until 1973 he was a member of the Festival Strings Lucerne. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in almost every European country as well as in Canada, India, China and Japan, with various radio broadcasts and recordings. Alfred Felder has been teaching at the music school and conservatory in Winterthur since 1981. As a composer he has received numerous commissions including from the city of Zurich, the ‘Tonhallegesellschaft Zürich’, the Festival Strings Lucerne, the Zurich Chamber Soloists, the Swiss Chamber Philharmonic and the Forum for New Music. His orchestral works have been performed at various festivals; examples include the Osaka Festival in Tokyo, in South Africa, in New York, in Russia and at the International Music Festival in Lucerne.
