Pietro (Pier) Francesco [Francesco] Cavalli -real name: Pietro Francesco Caletti-Bruni- (14/02/1602 - 17/01/1676), an Italian singer, organist and composer, maestro di cappella of St. Mark's church under Monteverdi. Born in Crema.

Missa pro defunctis with Libera me (1675) is for eight voices and has been sung at his own funeral. It contains:
01. Requiem aeternam 02. Kyrie 03. Dies irae 04. Mors stupebit 05. Rex tremendae 06. Preces meae 07. Domine Jesu Christe 08. Hostias 09. Sanctus 10. Agnus Dei
Requiem for eight voices. Later in the 17th century numerous requiem settings, many in concertato style, were produced by composers including G.B. Bassani, G.A. Bernabei, Antonio Bertali (eight settings), Biber, Giovanni Cavaccio, Cavalli, Cazzati, Joan Cererols, G.P. Colonna, P.A. Fiocco (three settings), Santino Girelli, J.K. Heller, J.C. Kerll (two settings), A.V. Michna, Marcin Mielczewski, Alessandro Scarlatti, Johann Stadlmayer, Christoph Straus (two settings) and Viadana.
