Edoardo Mascheroni (04/09/1859 - 04/03/1941), an Italian conductor and composer, born in Milan. He began to study music as an adult under Boucheron at Milan. In 1883 he secured an engagement at the Teatro Goldini at Livorno. Not long after he moved to the Teatro Apollo in Rome, and in 1893 was chosen by Verdi to conduct the production of Falstaff at Milan. He also conducted Puccini and Wagner.

Mascheroni's masterpiece was the Requiem for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, which he wrote in memory of Victor Emmanuel II (in Italian: Vittorio Emanuele II) (14/03/1820 - 09/01/1878) was the King of Piedmont, Savoy and Sardinia (1849 - 1861), and King of Italy (1861 - 1878).

So profound an impression did his Requiem (1888) create that the composer was commissioned by the royal family to write another requiem, for voices only, for exclusive performance in the royal chapel where it was performed.
