Ruth Margaret [Ruth] Lomon (07/11/1930 - 26/09/2017), a female American composer, born in Montreal, Canada:
"I became an American citizen in 1965 and should be listed as an American composer despite having been born and raised in Canada. I no longer teach privately but since 1998 have been a Resident Composer, in the Scholars Program at Brandeis University, Women's Studies Research Center (WSRC) Waltham, MA, USA, where I am working on an Oratorio, based on poems and writings of Holocaust victims."

Ruth Lomon (07/11/1930 - 26/09/2017), a female Canadian-born composer. She is a native of Montreal, Canada, and a composer of works for orchestra, chorus, chamber music, and solo repertoire as well as multimedia works. She was had commissions from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts, the New England Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, The New Mexico Arts Division, ALEA III, Dinosaur Annex and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston. She has had grants from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation and the Thanks be to Grandmother Winifred Foundation, residencies at Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony, where she received the Norton Foundation Award. Ruth Lomon began her formal studies at McGill University where she made her debut as a concert pianist. From 1971 to 1983 she concertized as part of the two piano team of Lomon and Wenglin. She was a private composition teacher who divides her time between New Mexico and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The songs are inserts in the setting of a requiem mass composed by Ruth Lomon in 1977, and dedicated to the memory of her sister. The Requiem is set for chorus with trumpets and trombones. The songs, settings of poems by the composer from 1970-72, are orchestrated for soprano, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, and bassoon. The version for soprano and piano was written in 1982.
