S.R. von Neukomm
Sigismund von Neukomm (10/07/1778 - 03/04/1858), an Austrian pianist and composer, born in Salzburg. Neukomm studied under Weissauer and Michael Haydn, and attended Salzburg University. In 1792, he began playing the organ at the University church, and in 1796, became chorus master at the court theater. He also taught piano and singing in Vienna, his pupils including Mozart. From 1804-1809, he served as Kapellmeister at the German theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, then moved to Paris. He arranged many of Haydn’s works, and, from 1816-1821, played them in South America. His works include a clarinet quintet, string quartet, organ pieces, operas, oratorios, and other forms.

Composer Sigismund Ritter von Neukomm arrived in Rio de Janeiro 1816. In december 1819 he conducted the first presentation of Mozarts Requiem in Brazil and he wrote the Libera Me Domine in some of Mozarts themes- completed Mozarts Requiem. Neukomm stayed in Brazil until 1821.

This Requiem is composed for three equal voices and organ. Total time: 59´25. The Funeral March for cornet 4 horns, 3 trombones and ophicleide. The mass comprises 4 parts. The first two parts, Requiem mass and De Profundis are performed during the church service, while the last two Miserere and the Funeral March are intended for the procession which accompanies the corps to the cemetry.
