Andrea Luchesi (Lucchesi) (23/05/1741 - 21/03/1801), an Italian composer, chapel master of Cologne and Bonn, born in Motta di Livenza (Veneto).

Andrea Luchesi (1741–1801), though little remembered by the public today, received a finer musical and cultural education than almost any other northern Italian musician of the 18th century, and his music is in urgent need of revival. He wrote a great deal of music of great beauty, including symphonies, chamber music, sacred works and operas. He was a professional composer by age 20, and a decade later the city of Venice commissioned him to write a Requiem Mass commemorating the death of the Spanish ambassador, the Count of Montealegre. The work was opulently performed at the state funeral in the Church of San Geremia. The same year, he accepted a position as Kapellmeister in Bonn, Germany, succeeding Beethoven’s grandfather, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sr. Luchesi spent the last 30 years of his life teaching in Bonn. His most famous pupil, for a period of twelve years, was the young Ludwig van Beethoven. On that basis alone, Luchesi’s music cries out for re-examination!
