Martin Amlin (12/06/1953), an American composer, born in Dallas, Texas. His music is characterized by pungent tonality and high rhythmic energy. His Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra was premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and his compositions have been performed by such artists as the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, the John Oliver Chorale, the Webster Trio, and other prominent ensembles. He has had commissions from the Seattle Flute Society, the Chicago Flute Club, Pacific Serenades, ALEA III, the James Pappoutsakis memorial flute competition, pianist Andrew Willis, and clarinetist Michael Webster. Mr. Amlin studied with Nadia Boulanger at the Écoles d’Art Américaines in Fontainebleau and the École Normale de Musique in Paris. He received M.M. and D.M.A. degrees as well as a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied piano with Frank Glazer and composition with Joseph Schwantner, Samuel Adler, and Warren Benson.
