Michael McGlynn (11/05/1964), an Irish composer. He was born in Dublin and is best known as composer for and director of the highly successful Irish choir Anúna which he founded in 1987. Anúna has released ten albums since 1993, almost exclusively featuring his arrangements and award-winning original works. Many of these CDs have been released on Universal Records, and have entered the top-selling CD charts in the UK, USA and Europe. Deep Dead Blue was the first Irish disc to be nominated for a Classical Brit Award in the UK. In 2003 an Essential Anúna disc was released on Universal Classics while Behind the Closed Eye, written for The Ulster Orchestra and Anúna, was released in the USA. His works are performed by hundreds of choral groups worldwide. Among the choirs who perform his works is the US choir Chanticleer who recently recorded an arrangement made by the composer of Stille Nacht featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw on the Teldec label. Two of Michael McGlynn's original pieces also feature in Chanticleer's Silver Jubilee Anthology of Choral Music. His saxophone and piano work Visions, commissioned by Gerard McCrystal in 1996 has been particularly successful and has received numerous performances. Recent recording projects include Silver River, a disc with oboist Matthew Manning and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
