J. Soler i Sardà
Josep Soler i Sardà (25/03/1935), a Spanish composer, interprete and tenore. He was born in Vilafranca del Penedés, Spain; active in Catania, Sicily, Italy; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Uruguay. He began his musical training there under Rosa Lara, and continued in Paris under René Leibowitz (1960) and then in Barcelona under C.Taltabull. He was won the Montecarlo Opera Prize (1964) the Barcelona City Prizes (1962 and 1978) and the XIII Oscar Esplà Prize. His opera Oedipus and Jocasta was premiered at the Liceu Thetre in 1986. He is the author of numerous books and articles. Greatly influenced by the music of Schoenberg and Alban Berg, Soler have employed the dodecaphonic technique in his works in a style which is simultaneously impressionist and expressionist and which becomes progressively simpler and more austere. Nowadays he uses a system of composition based on Tristan chord.
