Rien Donkersloot

Rien Donkersloot (1985), a Dutch organist, composer and carillonneur. He was born in 1985 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He studied organ at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Bas de Vroome and Ben van Oosten. In 2008 he graduated cum laude. He also obtained a diploma in church music. Besides organ, Rien plays carillon. He studied at the Dutch Carillon School in Amersfoort with Frans Haagen. He graduated cum laude in June 2011. In September 2009 he won 1st prize at the international carillon competition in Wavre (Belgium) and also 1st prize at the international carillon competition in Gorinchem. In September 2012 he won 1st prize at the International Sweelinck Carillon Competition in Groningen. He took organ courses with Michel Chapuis, Andres Cea Galan, Harald Vogel, Olivier Latry, Zsigmond Szathmary and Thomas Trotter. He won prizes at organ competitions in Brielle and Leiden; in September 2012 he won 2nd prize at the International Organ Competition in Breda. Rien is organist of the village church in Rhoon and of the Laurentius church in Mijnsheerenland. As of May 2012, he is principal organist of the St. Joriskerk in Amersfoort. He has been city carillonneur of Haarlem since November 2012, succeeding Bernard Winsemius. He also has an extensive teaching practice and is active as a (choir) accompanist. Four CDs of his playing were released, which were received very positively in the press.
Requiem
This Requiem, with lyrics by Maarten van Aes, a Dutch poet (27/06/1962) was first performed December 14th, 2018. It contains:
