Gabriel Thibaudeau (12/02/1959), a Canadian composer and pianist, born in Beauharnois (Québec). Recognized as a composer and pianist with the Cinémathèque québécoise for the past 15 years, Gabriel Thibaudeau has acquired an international reputation for providing background music for silent film. He composes sheet music for a variety of groups ranging from chamber ensembles to symphony orchestras. He is often requested to perform as a pianist, orchestra conductor and composer in Europe, North America and Japan. His works have been commissioned by such establishments and artists as the Louvres in Paris, the Cineteca del commune di Bologna, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Cannes Festival, the Musica Camerata ensemble, Angèla Dubeau and la pieta, among others. Since 2001, Les Grands Ballets de Montréal has been performing his adaptation of the opera "La Dame de Pique", especially designed for the ballet.

Requiem (1996), "To the memory of those who have been what we are." The Requiem is written for a solo voice, Soprano, and a chamber orchestra. The pieces are those of the traditional requiem mass.
The first version (for piano and voice) of this work was conceived in 1996 to accompany the silent film, The Hunchback of the Notre Dame. The idea to orchestrate the piece and in so doing make of it an independent work, came to me during the creation of the piece, but a number of years (and unfortunately several deaths in my entourage) were to pass before this was to become reality. This concert version of the Requiem (2003) is made up of eight vocal sections linked together by orchestral interventions. It more of less follows the liturgical order of the mass.
Inevitably in composing a Requiem one is confronted with death; the death of others... and one's own. But it is equally the celebration of the importance of those who have left us, the transcendence of time by a timeless text (incantation?). Through the Requiem we reach those who have disappeared in an everlasting fusion of human souls.
