Stelio Scordilis (11/12/1949), a Greek composer, born in Kerkyra (Corfu). He started his musical studies at the Corfu Conservatory, studying with Ileana Varotsis piano, guitar with Kosta Pangratis, and voice with Spyro Rapsomaniki. During his military tour, he formed several choruses performing folk and religious music. His Liturgical music is heard at Greek Orthodox Churches throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia.
He moved to Los Angeles in the late seventies, and continued his musical studies with Frank Despy, John Georgiades and Roger Wagner, specializing in Composition and Byzantine transcription. He sung with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Los Angeles Opera chorus and other professional choirs, taking part in many concert, opera and operetta performances during his stay in California.
In 1980 Stelio visited Hawaii and decided to make his home there. He conducted the choir of Sts Constantine & Helen Cathedral of the Pacific in Honolulu from 1987 till 1993. He has performed under Zubin Mehta, Robert Shaw, Roger Wagner, Anton Copolla, Joseph Flummerfelt, Skitch Henderson and many others. He attended Master classes with Placido Domingo, Marylin Horne and Robert Shaw.
In Hawaii he performs regularly with the Honolulu Symphony Chorus and the Hawaii Opera Theater Chorus. In 1985 he started doing his first arrangements of Byzantine Chants for chorus, and since then he is composing, arranging and transcribing sacred music for the Greek Orthodox Church.
In 1996 Stelio formed the Phaeacian Chorus, whose purpose is to promote Orthodox Music throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Stelio Scordilis resides in Honolulu.
