Dmitri Felixovich [Dmitri] Yanov-Yanovsky (24/04/1963), an Uzbek composer (from Tashkent) of mostly stage, orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electroacoustic works that have been performed across Asia and Europe very successfully; he is also very active in the promotion of contemporary music.
Mr. Yanov-Yanovsky graduated from the Tashkent State Conservatory in 1986, where he took composition and instrumentation classes with his father, Felix Yanov-Yanovsky. He was a participant in the masterclasses in Lerchenborg, Denmark with Poul Ruders and Edison Denisov (1992) and took part in Summer Academia at IRCAM, Paris (1993).
He has won a number of awards for his musical compositions. These include Second Prize at the International Competition of Composition De musique Sacrée in Fribourg, Switzerland (1991) for his piece Lacrymosa and the ALEA III International Prize in Boston (1992) for his work Presentiment. In addition, he has won the Special Award of Nantes at the Cannes International Film Festival (1992) for his score to the film Kammie.
In 1993-94, Mr. Yanov-Yanovsky performed and recorded the chang part in his piece Chang-Music V together with the Kronos Quartet, and in 2000, he and Elisabeth Chojnacka performed and recorded his piece Music of Dreams. In 1999, two monographic concerts of his music took place in Italy - one in Rome and one in Torino.
His works have been performed at the International Music Festival, Brno (1988), the cycles of concerts Europhonia, Zagreb (1990), the Lerchenborg Music Days (1992, 1994), the Vienna Jazz Festival (1993), Présences, Paris (1993, 2000), the Zagreb Biennale (1993), and the Cervantino, Mexico (1993). In addition, his works have been heard at the Kronos and Friends Festival (1993-94), the ISCM World Music Days, Stockholm (1994), the Schleswig-Holstein Festival (1994-95), Music Today (1995), the Moscow Autumn Festival (1996-97), the Warsaw Autumn Festival (1997), the Museum of Modern Art (2001), and others.
