Siegmund Schmidt (07/07/1939 - 17/11/2021), a German composer; born in Stuttgart. After graduating was Siegmund Schmidt organ pupil of Helmuth Rilling. He studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart, as well as musicology and German studies at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg school and church music. Siegmund Schmidt became Cantor and organist in Stuttgart-Botnang, later Assistant to University Music Director Prof. Dr. Siegfried Hermelink at the University of Heidelberg.

Mit dem Tod muss ich umgehn for Mezzo-Soprano and Orgel; after a poem "Requiem" by Marie Luise Kaschnitz (1901-1974).
In 1901, Marie Luise Kaschnitz was born as the daughter of an officer in Karlsruhe. She went to a "Lyzeum" in Berlin, completed an apprenticeship at a book store, and worked as a bookseller in Weimar, Munich, and Rome. In 1925, she married the archaeologist, Guido von Kaschnitz-Weinberg, and lived with him in various German and Italian cities. In 1933, Marie Luise Kaschnitz published her first novel "Liebe beginnt," and in the 50ies and 60ies, she wrote a great number of radio plays, such as "Jasons letzte Nacht," Der Zöllner Matthäus," and "Wer fürchtet sich vorm Schwarzen Mann." Furthermore, she wrote poems, narratives, and autobiographical works. In 1955, she received the "Georg-Büchner-Preis," and in 1960, she held lectures on poetry at the University of Frankfurt.
