Requiem for mixed voices, solo viola and organ in memory of Verdi who died in 1901. The duration of Puccini's requiem is only 5'35. But it is a masterpiece with a lovely and moving violinsolo. The mournful tones of the solo viola lend a ditinctive atmosphere to the composition which is also characterised by the composer's restrained choral writing, and his use of subtly shifting harmonies in the organ part.
