David Arditti (01/07/1964), an English composer (born in Bournemouth). He was born in 1964, of mixed Jewish and Austrian descent, brought up on the south coast of England, and now lives in West Hampstead, London. After training for a scientific career he eventually took up music full time and now composes, conducts, accompanies and teaches. He studies the piano with Peter Bithell of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has studied conducting with Neil Thompson, Gregory Rose and George Hurst, and composition with Paul Webster. He has performed many times with baritone William Revels in songs and song-cycles by Schumann, Burns, Vaughan Williams, Finzi, Haydn, Bax etc. at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and elsewhere. He is a particular expert on English 19th century music, and performed song-cycles by Sullivan and German with Alexander Anderson Hall and Carolyn Jackson (both of Scottish Opera) at the 1997 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has conducted many choral and orchestral works, including the premieres of some of his own. He was for some time the regular conductor of the Chelsea Singers, a chamber group in London with a wide repertoire. His compositions include songs and song-cycles, piano music, chamber music, an overture and a tone-poem for orchestra, choral music, including a Requiem and a Mass in C, and a film score. Performances have take place all over Britain, and in August 1998 the first overseas performance took place in Maine, USA.
