David (Bryant) Arbury (07/07/1973), an American composer. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., David Arbury grew up singing as a boy treble at National Cathedral in the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys under Richard Dirksen and later, Douglas Major. In high school, he continued in the Men's choir as a countertenor and studied percussion. In 1995, he received his B. A. in Music from Haverford College where he studied theory and composition with Curt Cacioppo and John Davidson as well as piano, conducting, and voice. After graduation, he returned to D. C. where he worked in the Music Division of the Library of Congress, sang as a tenor in the Cathedral Choir, co-founded an independent record label, and wrote for and performed with area ensembles. In 2002, he received his M. M. from Arizona State University studying under James DeMars, Glenn Hackbarth, and Randall Shinn and from 2001-2003 was Composer-in-Residence for the Cathedral Center for the Arts at Trinity Cathedral in Phoenix, Arizona. His music has been commissioned and performed by ensembles throughout the United States and includes music for modern dance and theater as well as the concert stage and church.
