Audiences are invited to witness an epic musical performance when “Requiem for the Millennium” comes to Talbot Theater at Nicholls State University on Tuesday, April 6, 2004.
The concert brings together the musical talents of the Nicholls State Concert Choir, the choir from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, several vocal soloists, an orchestra and a jazz combo. They will join their skills to perform a composition that includes a little of everything – classical, jazz, gospel and blues music.
“Requiem for the Millennium” was composed by Gary Hallquist, an assistant professor of worship ministries at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a widely published composer of church choral and instrumental music and a recording artist with two solo albums. He plays the saxophone, clarinet and flute. “Requiem for the Millennium” was commissioned by the seminary and first performed by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000.
The jazz combo includes pianist Dwight Fitch, worship leader at Celebration Church in Metairie, bassist Robert Dickson of Birmingham, Ala., and drummer Caudle “Jay” Atkins, a student at the seminary.
The concert will be conducted by Ken Gabrielse, chairman of church music at the seminary.
