Robert Andrew [Bob] Pitton (07/05/1921 - 08/12/2007), an American composer. He died at James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. WW II Sergeant from 1943-46, serving as a medic in the Americal Division task force 6814, based in the Solomon Islands, specifically at Bougainville. Robert graduated from Upper Arlington High School, Class of 1939. Attended Ohio State University, played tackle position on the OSU football team until leaving for military service. Returned to OSU after serving his country, receiving his BA in Music composition. Attended UCLA to earn his Masters in Music composition. Later earned a Masters in Art Education from Rutgers University. He taught art in both the Upper Arlington and Columbus Public School systems. During his life, Robert composed three symphonies and an opera based on the story "The Monk and the Hangman's Daughter", by Ambrose Bierce, as well as numerous pieces for a variety of instruments. One of his sculptures is in the permanent collection of the Columbus Museum of Art. A mass and memorial concert of Bach's greatest works have been held at St. Joseph Cathedral, December 20, 2007.
