Saverio Mercadante (17/09/1795 - 17/12/1870), an Italian composer and excellent performer (violin, flute, etc.), born in Altamura. He composed about 60 operas. Paolo Serrao (1830 - 17/03/1907) wrote a requiem for Mercadante.
