Paisiello's Requiem for soloists, double chorus and orchestra (1789) is a moderately large work with an extended sequence that is weakened by being too sectionalized, by too frequent use of uninteresting strophic variation and by static harmony with little richness of colour; there is evidence that Paisiello's funeral symphony is intended to be performed before the Requiem.
