Evelyn Hope [Hope] Squire (1878 - 1935) was a professional musician who married Frank Merrick in 1911. Apart from the items in this list, there are two round portrait photographs of her in the grandchildren’s room. In addition she was the artist who designed and embroidered the peacock and butterfly picture, and the riverside picture, also in that room. The letters which she and Frank Merrick exchanged, and the papers associated with his imprisonment, are catalogued under Frank Merrick. The music which she composed has been lost; it included a setting of Longfellow’s ‘Hiawatha’.
