Karl Ludwig [Karl / Carl] Drobisch (24/12/1803 - 20/8/1854), a German composer, teacher, and Kapellmeister, born in Leipzig. German church musician and composer, born and raised in Leipzig. After a musical education in his native town, he first became a music teacher and composed smaller choral works. After a stopover in Munich, he received a permanent position at the Evangelical Church in Augsburg as conductor, choirmaster, organist and music teacher. A convincing representative of a neoclassical style, he felt more drawn to Catholic church music, representing Cecilian ideals and aspirations for liturgical reforms towards ecumenism. Like his spiritual role model Johann Sebastian Bach, he wrote not only songs with Latin and German texts but also entire masses with the ordinaries prescribed in the Catholic Church. A resounding success was denied him in both churches.
